A global day of giving back
After weeks of uncertainty during the federal government shutdown, CalFresh benefits (federally known as SNAP) were finally restored — but for many of our neighbors, the damage was already done. Families were left anxious and unsure how they would afford their next meal.
Even with benefits released, SNAP still falls short of our region's high cost of living and is now facing the steepest cuts in its history. Alongside looming reductions to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, many families will soon face impossible choices between food, housing and healthcare.
If we can raise $1 million by midnight on December 2, The Reid Hoffman Foundation and the Khosla Family will triple the amount.
Donations made through a donor-advised fund, IRA or gifts of stock can also count toward the match. To ensure your generosity is included, initiate your gift, note that it's for Giving Tuesday, and contact us at donor.relations@shfb.org.
New tax law changes may impact charitable deductions in the years ahead. Take a few minutes to hear from giving expert Patrick Schmitt on five smart ways to plan your giving and make the biggest impact in 2025 in the video below.
